I Wonder Why…

Make your ear attentive to wisdom,
Incline your heart to understanding

                                                                                              Proverbs 2:2 (NASB)

Curiosity has always been one of my issues. Sometimes in my life I’ve been too curious for my own good. But aren’t there things about which you’ve thought, “I wonder why…?” In today’s world that seems to be one of my more frequent thoughts. So at risk of being offensive to someone out there (I wonder why?) here goes.

I wonder why good friends of my lady friends are called “girlfriends,” but I could never refer to my golf buddies as “boyfriends.” I wonder why there is such an outcry over “gun violence” that would prohibit gun ownership, but bloody, violent video games are openly watched by children of every age? I wonder why atheists/evolutionists such as Richard Dawkins point to survival of the fittest – that every trait has been evolved to enhance survival of the tribe? So tell me, what have Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Handel, etc. to do with survival of the fittest?

I wonder why our culture has become so divided along partisan lines. I wonder why Biblical morality is now a negative influence when it is the only morality that’s ever been meaningful and immutable. I wonder why people are appalled and traumatized at photos of the Nazi atrocities of the Holocaust but are indifferent to photos of the bodies of the murdered unborn.

I wonder why the term ‘love’ has become such a focus of hate. I wonder why we are so clueless when we are young, we learn so much from the experiences of age, but by then we are too old, fragile and tired to benefit from that knowledge.

I wonder why we believe anecdotal evidence from untrained commentators, but we deny the output of scientific method. I wonder why we have lost trust in most anyone. I wonder why the Church, referred to as the body of Christ, has so many divisions and disagreements that now we have ‘churches,’ each with their own set of doctrines rather than the CHURCH.

I wonder why golf. How can it be that to hit it right you have to swing left; to hit it high you have to hit down; to hit it into the wind you have to swing slower. Why?

If you’ve thought of any other “I wonder why….” examples, send them to me. I’d love to hear from you.
